El Monte : Grant for Robotics Class

El Monte High School’s machine shop has received a $5,000 federal grant to add to its curriculum a class in which students will be introduced to the use of robotics. The grant, administered through the state Department of Education, has been matched by the school with $5,000 from funds allocated for vocational training programs.

Kevin Pendergast, a shop instructor who submitted the grant proposal and will teach the class, said the money will be used to purchase materials that will give students hands-on experience in programming and assembling automated machines. Students also will view films about careers in industrial robotics and go on field trips to industrial centers.
