Veteran defensive end Fred Dean of the San Francisco 49ers, reacting to a newspaper story that he will retire, told the San Francisco Examiner that he plans to return for one or two more seasons.
“Now I think I have to come back for a season or two and show I can play,” said Dean, who was upset with the story in Thursday’s San Francisco Chronicle.
Dean, who played a big role in the 49ers’ Super Bowl XVI championship, said he was “50-50 until today” on the idea of retiring.
