Garden Grove : Woman Stabbed After Asking for Ride Home

Share

It was 1:50 a.m. Sunday, and the woman leaving the bar in Garden Grove discovered she had car trouble. She asked a man she had met at the Bunkhouse Tavern, 12082 Garden Grove Blvd., to give her a ride home.

Police said the 31-year-old woman, whose name was not released, soon discovered that she had made a near-fatal mistake. Once inside the man’s car, he began to stab her with a knife, police said.

The woman ran from the car to a lighted store across the street, the Kork and Bottle Liquor Store at 12011 Garden Grove Blvd.

While night manager Benjamin Frincia gave aid to the woman, two male customers ran out to chase the knife-wielding man, according to Lyle Glenna, the liquor store owner.

“They caught him and held him until police came,” Glenna said. Neither of the customers was hurt, he added.

The woman suffered multiple stab wounds of the head and arms, police said. She was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she was reported in stable condition.

George V. Chavarria, 29, of Santa Ana was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Police said the motive for the alleged attack is unknown. Investigating officers said the victim had not previously known her attacker.
