Drug Charges Against Prep Star Dropped

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office decided Monday not to file charges against Bobby San Jose, a Long Beach Wilson High School senior quarterback who was arrested last Thursday during a drug raid at the school.

San Jose, who has signed a letter of intent to play for UCLA, allegedly had agreed to sell cocaine to an undercover policewoman, from whom he had accepted $50. Police said that he neither returned the money nor provided the cocaine.

“His guilt couldn’t be proven beyond a reasonable doubt,” said Carmen Rugnetta, deputy district attorney.

San Jose’s mother said that the top priority is to get Bobby reinstated at school. He and six other students were suspended at the time they were arrested. A school board meeting is set for May 19 to consider his suspension.

“That’s just too long,” she said. “He needs these classes for college. We’re hoping that the school board will understand and act on this sooner. If not, we’ll be looking for another school for him.”
