The Oakland A’s won their second straight one-run game Thursday, beating the Milwaukee Brewers, 2-1, at Oakland.

Thursday’s game began only 14 hours after the A’s had beaten the Brewers, 7-6, the previous night.

Oakland Manager Jackie Moore was ejected in the fifth inning by plate umpire Ted Hendry. Meanwhile, Oakland’s Chris Codiroli and Milwaukee’s Ted Higuera continued their pitching duel.

Codiroli (3-3) pitched out of several jams, including a bases-loaded situation in the fifth inning, and stranded 11 Brewers in eight innings.

Higuera (4-2) blanked Oakland on four hits through seven innings, but he allowed two runs to score on three singles in the eighth.

In the play that led to Moore’s ejection, Carney Lansford was tagged out by Brewer catcher Charlie Moore on an attempted steal of home with two out in the bottom of the fifth. Lansford slid across the plate after Tony Phillips squared around to bunt, but Hendry called Lansford out on a tag after the pitch.

Boston 4, Seattle 2--The Mariners, playing under coach Marty Martinez after Manager Chuck Cottier was fired early in the day, led, 2-0, going into the seventh inning at Seattle but couldn’t hold the lead as Marty Barrett’s two-run triple capped a four-run Red Sox rally in the seventh.
