A scuba diver from Newport Beach died after she apparently rose too fast in deep water off San Clemente Island and suffered a respiratory embolism. A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said 39-year-old Grace Hempseed was diving with friends when she appeared to be in trouble. Authorities said she was taken by Coast Guard helicopter to USC’s hyperbaric chamber on Santa Catalina Island but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
