RIGID REDGRAVE

Share

I really don’t think it’s necessary to boycott the films of Vanessa Redgrave. Nobody goes to see them anyway.

A while back, I wandered into my local Bijou to see “Wetherby” and there were three of us in the audience. After a half hour, one woman left. A few minutes later, the other one left, too, but she returned with a box of popcorn and stuck it out with me.

I rather enjoyed the film, although I thought the symbolism was a bit highfalutin. Redgrave gave her usual rigid performance of a rigid woman, a role in which she has no peer. On my all-time list of favorite actresses, she ranks No. 987, just behind Bella Darvi.

P.S.--Late Bulletin: Redgrave scores again in the Nielsen ratings, as “Second Serve” manages to come in third in its time slot. I personally don’t see anything remarkable about Redgrave portraying a man. She has always reminded me of her father in a fright wig.
