Don Shiver, a junior middleweight boxer whose only pro loss came against Mark Breland, was killed Sunday night when he lost control of his speeding vehicle on Interstate 75 in Florida, police said.
A spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol said the accident was alcohol-related. Police said Shiver, from Tampa, was driving at a high speed when his car went off the roadway in Brooksville and rolled over.
Shiver had a 22-1 record, the loss coming when he was knocked out in the first round by Breland, the 1984 Olympic champion, in a welterweight bout last July 20 at Norfolk, Va.
