Long Beach : No Expulsion for Athlete

Share

A Long Beach Unified School District hearing panel has decided not to recommend expulsion of Wilson High School football quarterback Bobby San Jose, clearing the way for his graduation in June.

San Jose was arrested May 1 by Long Beach police after he allegedly took $50 from a female undercover officer at the school in exchange for cocaine. San Jose never delivered drugs to the officer and the district attorney’s office declined to prosecute. San Jose was also cleared of drug charges by the panel, but a separate charge of petty theft stemming from his acceptance of the $50, which he later repaid, is still being reviewed. San Jose has been out of school since his arrest. The panel could return him to Wilson, or transfer him to another of the district’s five schools.
