Action taken by the University of Florida to clean up its football program was instrumental in a Southeastern Conference decision to reduce by half an estimated $1.3-million financial penalty levied against the Gators.

The Gators were hit with a two-year NCAA probation in 1984 for recruiting violations. The decision means that Florida, the first school to be excluded from SEC revenue sharing, will receive half of the $780,000 the SEC withheld in 1985. The Gators will also get half of a projected $550,000 in TV revenue for next season.
