Share

An Irvine man shot in his home Thursday night by one of three armed robbers was identified as police asked the public for help in finding a possible getaway car.

Michael Pfeifer, a 35-year-old construction worker, was wounded after the trio entered an unlocked door of his condominium at 3 Lincoln St. Irvine Police Sgt. Dick Bowman said the intruders demanded money and one of them fired a pistol at Pfeifer when he began arguing with them.

The thieves fled on foot with a purse belonging to Pfeifer’s wife, who was in the home when the 8 p.m. incident occurred, Bowman said. She was not injured, but Pfeifer was treated at a nearby hospital for what police described as moderate injuries.

Police believe a 1972 brown Pinto station wagon, with simulated wood siding and a license plate “similar to 942 CYK,” may have been used as a getaway car by the suspects, described as three men in their middle to late 20s. The vehicle was seen in the neighborhood Thursday night with three occupants matching the intruders’ description, Bowman said.

Anyone with information about the car or suspects is asked to call Irvine police at (714) 660-3700.
