Too Many Lawyers

Tom Gorman’s article May 28 in The Times regarding the possibility that three, if not all six, defendants in the Laura Troiani murder-for-hire trial will be tried individually is just another instance of the injustice of justice. Or, better stated, too many lawyers for the collective good of society.

I sincerely believe that when two or more people are accused of getting together to commit any crime, they should all be tried together to ensure that all of them receive the same end result. But, of course, trial lawyers much prefer to deal with them one at a time to ensure that there is sufficient work and money to keep them accustomed to a life style little known to the average taxpayer.

I think that it is about time that the people of this state put an initiative on the ballot to require that all defendants in a common crime be tried together, something our lawyer-dominated Legislature will never do.
