An 18-month-old girl who wandered away from her mother’s disabled car while the woman telephoned for help was struck by a car and killed on a freeway connector road, officials said. Linda Holm, 26, of Panorama City had pulled off the San Bernardino Freeway just east of downtown to use a call box, the California Highway Patrol said. As Holm spoke on the phone, her 5-year-old son got out of the car to join her, followed by his 18-month-old sister, Crystal Ruth. The girl wandered across a narrow asphalt strip onto the lanes connecting the westbound San Bernardino Freeway with the northbound Golden State Freeway and was struck and killed by a car, officers said. The driver was not cited.
