Duarte : Crackdown on Truancy
The Duarte Unified School District and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will conduct a truancy sweep beginning today and continuing until June 13. Students who are out of school without excuses will be picked up by deputies and taken to Mt. Olive Continuation High School, where parents will be required to pick them up.
Supt. Robert Packer said that under ordinary circumstances, deputies who pick up truant students take them to their schools, but that the sweep is an effort to involve parents and raise their awareness of the consequences of truancy.
