A man chasing two gunmen who tried to rob his friend was shot and killed. Carlos Rodriguez, 26, was inside a house on 4th Street off Western Avenue when he heard a woman screaming for help, looked outside and saw two men trying to rob his friend, Jose Ortiz, 30, and a woman. Rodriguez and Ortiz dashed down an alley after the two, who stopped, turned and fired. Rodriguez was mortally wounded, and Ortiz was hospitalized in stable condition with a leg wound. Nothing was taken in the robbery attempt.
