Brinton Clark, one of two 16-year-old survivors rescued from a snow cave on Mt. Hood last month, will be released from a rehabilitation center this weekend, a hospital spokeswoman said Friday.

Clark no longer is using a wheelchair or any aids to walk and has improved in the use of her hands, said Lori Callister, spokeswoman for Emanuel Hospital.

The Portland girl and Giles Thompson of Longview, Wash., were rescued May 15 after a three-day search on the mountain east of Portland. Seven of their classmates from Oregon Episcopal School in Portland and two faculty members died.

Thompson remained in serious but stable condition Friday following skin graft surgery.
