Weekend Racing at Hollywood Park : Palace Music Heads Field for Inglewood Handicap

Palace Music, already a stakes winner in England, will head a seven-horse field in Sunday’s $100,000 Inglewood Handicap at Hollywood Park.

Trained by Charlie Whittingham and ridden by Bill Shoemaker, Palace Music won the inaugural John Henry Handicap May 4, beating Clever Song by 1 lengths.

The 5-year-old was assigned high weight of 124 pounds in the 1 1/8-mile turf race for 3-year-olds and up. Palace Music is owned by Nelson Bunker Hunt and Allen E. Paulson.

Clever Song is also entered. Before losing to Palace Music in the John Henry, Clever Song won the opening-day Premiere Handicap April 23 and has finished no worse than second in his last five starts. Ridden by Fernando Toro, Clever Song will carry 122 pounds,

Others entered are Zoffany, who will be ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye and will carry 121 pounds; Justoneoftheboys, Jack Kaenel, 114; Kalim, Alex Solis, 113; Blue Razor, Gary Stevens, 113, and Truce Maker, Frank Olivares, 112.

If all seven start, the total purse will be $109,300, with the winner earning $64,300.

Because only four horses were entered, today’s Valkyr Handicap will be run as a betless exhibition between the eighth and ninth races.

The Valkyr, a $100,000 one-mile dirt race for fillies and mares, will be headed by Fran’s Valentine. Patrick Valenzuela will ride Fran’s Valentine, who was assigned high weight of 122 pounds.

Also entered are Shywing, Laffit Pincay, 119 pounds; Water Crystals, Toro, 119, and Kinda Beau, Corey Black, 112.

If all four entries go to the post, the total purse will be $104,800, and the winner will collect $59,800.
