Sly Stallone and Prince, appealing to the same target audience?

That’s what Warner Bros. thinks. The studio has attached trailers for Prince’s upcoming “Under the Cherry Moon” to the 2,000-plus prints of “Cobra,” and it’s reportedly drawing hoots and raunchy comments from rowdy “Cobra” audiences.

Said a Warners rep: “ ‘Cobra’ had the biggest opening of the year. So that’s a lot of people who are now aware of Prince’s film. ‘Cobra’ plays to young males and females, the same group Prince appeals to. It couldn’t be a better pairing.”

A California film exhibitor, asking anonymity, disagrees: “We’ve had people shout obscenities and laugh,” he said. “You’ve got macho , beer-drinking Sly fans who see Prince wearing his flamenco-dancer outfit and they want to tear down the screen.”

Even Prince fans may be unprepared for “Cherry Moon”: It’s filmed in black and white--except for the last 10 minutes, when Prince is in Heaven and does a couple of songs.
