The Region : Signs Warning Pregnant Drinkers OKd
An ordinance requiring bars and liquor stores in Los Angeles to post warnings of the potential danger of drinking alcohol while pregnant has been signed into law by Mayor Tom Bradley. Authored by Councilwoman Joy Picus, the law requires businesses selling beer, wine and liquor to post a sign no smaller than 64 square inches that reads: “Warning: Drinking wine, beer and other alcoholic beverages during pregnancy can cause birth defects.” Several other cities have similar laws, including Philadelphia and New York.
