Michael W. Reding, a 27-year-old former engineer, was convicted Thursday of second-degree murder by an Orange County Superior Court jury in the 1984 drunk driving-related deaths of a Fullerton mother and her three children.

The California Supreme Court ruled four years ago that prosecutors could seek such convictions in cases where lives are lost.

Reding was found guilty of four counts of murder 20 months after his car rammed into a small automobile driven by Pamela Trueblood, 36, killing her, Eric, 11; Kerry, 9, and Scott, 8.

Reding faces a maximum sentence of 60 years to life in prison, but Deputy Dist. Atty. Mike Jacobs said he will recommend only 15 years to life.
