Carson : Redlining Resolution

Share

Inveighing against high insurance rates, the City Council voted 4 to 0 to ask the state Legislature to impose a ban on redlining for automotive insurance.

“The insurance industry uses a highly discriminatory means for determining individual automobile insurance rates--the practice of redlining--whereby an individual’s address rather than his driving record is used to determine the rate upon which a premium is developed,” said City Administrator John Dangleis. “The residents of Carson typically pay among the highest insurance premiums of any jurisdiction in Los Angeles County.”

Mayor Sylvia Muise said she did not want the matter to rest with the resolution and directed the administration to prepare a report on the problem.
