Heywood Replaces Sweeney at Ascot Tonight

Bruce Bromme, the winningest car owner in the history of the California Racing Assn. sprint car racing but winless in 1986, has fired driver Mike Sweeney of Carson and replaced him with Jeff Heywood of Huntington Beach.

Although Sweeney is running second in points behind leader Brad Noffsinger, second is the best he has been able to do since taking over the ride from Dean Thompson, who retired after last season.

Heywood will make his debut in tonight’s program at Ascot Park. Replacing Heywood in the Frank Lewis No. 91 car will be Lealand McSpadden of Tempe, Ariz., who was left without a ride when his regular Ascot car was unavailable because of illness to its owner.
