LaRussa Named Manager of A’s
Tony LaRussa, fired 12 days ago as manager of the Chicago White Sox, today was named the new manager of the Oakland A’s, team president Roy Eisenhardt said.
Eisenhardt said the former White Sox manager was his club’s first choice for a replacement for Jackie Moore, fired last Thursday after directing the club to a 29-44 record this season. The only delay in LaRussa’s signing with the A’s appeared to be his desire to spend time with his family. He had planned to head across the United States on vacation in a few weeks.
