Two Cleveland-area brothers, who built their wealth developing shopping malls, have acquired an exclusive option to buy a controlling interest in the troubled Cleveland Indians baseball franchise.

Richard E. Jacobs, 61, and David H. Jacobs, 65, who own Jacobs, Visconsi & Jacobs Co. of Westlake, Ohio, met with team Chairman Patrick J. O’Neill, American League President Bobby Brown and city officials before the deal was announced.
