A California condor roosting near the construction site of a television tower near the southern Sierra community of Springville has caused work crews to cut back on their work schedule. Two of the three condors known to remain in the wild have been spotted near the work site on the 5,700-foot Blue Ridge in eastern Tulare County. Building crews stopped work for awhile on both Tuesday and Wednesday when one of the condors roosted nearby. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Fresno received permission to build the tower on condition that the condors be protected. Work is allowed only from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.--when condors normally do not roost. In addition to the three condors in the wild, 24 of the huge vultures live in captivity as part of a recovery program.
