Bert Blyleven, Minnesota Twins pitcher being fined $50 per day by his team because he won’t shave his beard, says his agent will file a grievance against the club. “The whole thing makes me look like a villain,” he said, “that’s not the case at all.”

Blyleven wore a beard before being traded to the Twins last Aug. 1, when he shaved it off. He says he’s upset because the fine money --which the Twins give to charity-- appears not cost him anything extra because he already is making charitable contributions.

“Before the season started, my family and I wanted to donate $2,500 a month for tickets (for senior citizens), and we’ve done that,” Blyleven said. “And we’ve given to the United Way. What really hurts is that now people think I’m giving the tickets away and giving to the United Way because of the beard thing, and that’s not true.”
