A Lake View Terrace man was sentenced to 34 years to life in prison Wednesday for his part in a 1985 burglary that ended in the death of a resident who dared intruders to shoot him.

Kenry Eugene Lewis, 25, and an accomplice were convicted in May of first-degree murder, burglary and assault with a firearm in the April 9 killing of Charles Lovant Preyor, 54, in Preyor’s Lake View Terrace home. James Lester Settle Jr., 25, was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison earlier this month by San Fernando Superior Court Judge John H. Major, who presided over the joint trial.

Lewis received a longer prison sentence because of a previous burglary conviction. He will be eligible for parole in 17 years, Deputy Dist. Atty. Rosalie Morton said.

The two men were convicted of forcing their way into Preyor’s house and ordering Preyor and William Vincent to lie on the living room floor. Then Preyor stood up and shouted, “Go ahead and shoot me,” according to statements made by Vincent to police.

A third man allegedly involved in the burglary identified Lewis and Settle to police in exchange for immunity, Morton said.
