A 15-year-old girl who apparently darted into an intersection against a red light Thursday and hit the side of a car died of her injuries eight hours later, Anaheim police reported.
Danielle Christine McConnell of Anaheim ran south across La Palma Avenue at State College Boulevard, into the side of a car westbound on La Palma at 9:45 a.m., Lt. Marc Hedgpeth said. A witness told police the southbound pedestrian signal was red, and the signal for the car was green, he added.
The girl suffered major head and internal injuries and was transported to UCI Medical Center’s trauma center in Orange, police said. She died at 5:50 p.m.
The investigation is continuing, Hedgpeth said. The driver was not cited.
