A San Francisco man charged with biting two police officers during a skirmish at the Gay Pride Parade in Hillcrest last month pleaded innocent Thursday to two counts of battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.
Brian Barlow, 39, faces an Aug. 14 preliminary hearing and remains free on $8,500 bond. Meanwhile, an order requiring Barlow to submit a blood sample to test for AIDS antibodies was stayed so his defense attorney could appeal the order.
A blood sample was taken immediately after Barlow’s arrest June 7, but Deputy Dist. Atty. Al Barret successfully argued that a second sample should be taken because the first one might not be allowed as evidence.
A motion to test the blood sample for antibodies associated with the deadly acquired immune deficiency syndrome will be heard July 31.
Barlow faces a maximum sentence of three years in state prison if convicted.
