A knife attack in the main exercise yard of Folsom Prison ended Wednesday with an inmate from Orange County being taken to the hospital with serious wounds.

Prison spokesman Sgt. Kevin Walker said a gun tower officer saw the altercation and fired a warning shot which stopped the fight.

Receiving five wounds in the torso was Raymond Wade Robbins, 36, of Stanton, who is serving a 53-year sentence for rape and oral copulation with force.

In August, 1984, Robbins was arrested by Stanton police, who found him asleep in the bedroom of a 68-year-old Stanton woman. He had apparently threatened the woman with a butcher knife, then beat her with his fists and raped her.

Placed in administrative segregation was Robert Gallego, 21, who is serving a two-year sentence for a first-degree burglary in Riverside County.

Walker said a 10-inch prison-made dagger was found at the scene.
