Former Arizona State and Miami Dolphins linebacker...
Former Arizona State and Miami Dolphins linebacker Larry Gordon may have been involved in drug use that led to his sudden death in 1983, according to his brother.
Ira Gordon, a drug counselor based in Phoenix, said he discovered what appeared to be a pipe used for free-basing cocaine in the room his brother had occupied in their sister’s home.
“I cleaned up his room after his death,” Gordon told the Arizona Republic. “I found small amounts of cocaine.”
Larry Gordon, 28, collapsed while jogging in 100-degree heat in the desert in Laveen, Ariz., on June 25, 1983. He died later that night at Jesse Owens Memorial Hospital.
The autopsy report listed the death as stemming from a type of disease in which the heart muscles outgrow the blood supply, causing irregular rhythms and finally heart failure.
