Sniper Hunt in Eagle Rock Forces Closure of Part of Glendale Freeway
Police SWAT officers, aided by K-9 teams and helicopters, searched several blocks of an Eagle Rock neighborhood Friday, seeking the gunman who fired more than 50 shots that forced closure of a part of the Glendale Freeway during the afternoon rush hours.
No gunman was found, but police arrested two young men whom they found hiding under a hot tub in the neighborhood, wearing military camouflage clothing.
Officers later said Matthew Morales, 18, and Marc Corey, 18, apparently had nothing to do with the shootings, but they were booked on suspicion of interfering with police officers.
No injuries were reported from the gunfire, but one man said a bullet hit his pickup truck, and work was suspended for several hours at businesses in the vicinity of the shooting.
Police said the incident began when the owner of Masonry Builders Supply, 3901 Eagle Rock Blvd., said shots were fired at his shop. Police arriving at the scene also reported hearing shots.
Southbound lanes of the Glendale Freeway, which had been closed to traffic while the search was in progress, were reopened at about 6:30 p.m.
