The driver of a small truck was fatally injured early Sunday when the truck hit the center divider on Commonwealth Avenue and then slammed into a cement lamppost, police said.
Lt. Dennis Bryerton said Thomas Gage Corbin, 18, of Fullerton, was driving his 1982 Toyota truck west on Commonwealth Avenue near Brookhurst Road at 1 a.m. when he lost control and hit the divider.
Corbin, who was alone in the truck, was treated at the scene by paramedics and transported to Fullerton Community Hospital, where he died at 1:45 p.m. from massive body and head injuries, the police spokesman said.
Bryerton said investigators found no skid marks, indicating Corbin did not attempt to brake before the truck hit the divider. He also said alcohol was probably related to the accident.
“Excess speed was definitely a cause and investigators smelled strong odors of alcohol,” Bryerton said.
