2 Killed as Train Smashes Into Truck
Two people were killed in the Mojave Desert late Sunday when a Santa Fe freight train smashed into a large truck loaded with flammable aerosol bottles, causing a series of explosions.
The victims, who were not immediately identified, were occupants of the truck, and died at the scene, San Bernardino County Fire Captain Frank Orr said. No one on the train was hurt.
The accident occurred on California 58, two miles east of U.S. 395 near Kramer, a small community on the eastern edge of Edwards Air Force Base.
