A jogger who said he found a newborn baby abandoned in a Rosemead park on July 12 actually was the uncle of the child and was trying to help his unwed sister find a home for the infant, authorities said. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Lynda Edmonds said an investigation revealed that the 18-year-old man’s older sister gave birth the day before, without her family’s knowledge, and that the frightened woman then turned to her brother for help. Sheriff’s investigators sought a criminal complaint against the 21-year-old mother on grounds of child abandonment, but the district attorney’s office found no intent to cause injury to the baby and declined to file charges, Edmonds said. The infant has been placed in the custody of county officials for adoption.
