Thomas F. Daly, executive assistant to county Supervisor Ralph B. Clark, has been appointed interim school board member in the Anaheim Union High School District.

Daly, 31, will be sworn in Aug. 7 to fill the vacancy created by the resignation July 1 of board member Kurt Haunfelner. The remaining four members of the school board interviewed 12 candidates for Haunfelner’s seat, and on Tuesday they agreed on Daly.

He will serve until the November, 1987, election, when the final two years of Haunfelner’s term will be filled by election. Daly said he will be a candidate in that election.

Daly, who lives in Anaheim with his wife, Debra, has been Clark’s executive assistant for the past six years.

“I’ve lived in Anaheim since I was 2 years old; we moved here when my father began teaching Latin at Anaheim High School,” Daly said. His father, William Daly, taught Latin and English in the high school district until retiring after 25 years.

Thomas Daly graduated from Anaheim High, where he was editor of the school newspaper and a pitcher on the baseball team. He won a scholarship to Harvard University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in government in 1976.
