Mostly sunny skies allowed temperatures to climb to near 100 degrees over much of the southern half of the Plains and the lower Mississippi Valley. In Atlanta, the temperature reached 90 degrees for the 25th day in a row, tying a record set in June and July of 1980. A high of 101 degrees in Springfield, Mo., broke a 34-year-old record by a degree. Oklahoma City’s 104 degrees tied a 1964 record. Meanwhile, rain was scattered from Lake Erie across Ohio and Kentucky.
