LETTERS : Honesty in Golfing

Share

I witnessed Donna Duke’s hole-in-one at Sunset Hills on Sept. 10. I can assure you it went in the hole. I walked beside Donna to the green. She walked around the green to the area in back of the green because she felt that she over-drove the green. She was never out of my vision. I suggested to Betty Alsberg, our Women’s Club president, to go look in the hole. And there it was.

Not long after this I wrote the famous Jim Murray of your paper and suggested with his reputation and integrity that he champion her cause. No answer.

In the last year, I’ve seen four holes-in-one--three by myself (75 yards, 105 yards and 125 yards) and one by a friend. None of us saw the balls go in the hole. My 125-yard hole-in-one was the first hole at Leisure Village, and at least 20 women saw me tee off.

Perhaps if Donna looked like Jan Stephenson, she would have received the publicity she deserves.
