A couple stopped by police for driving a Corvette without a windshield were arrested after $75,000 worth of methamphetamines was found in the vehicle, police said Monday.

The driver, identified as James Carl Scigliano of Redlands, and his passenger, Ginger Marie Kempster of Loma Linda, were booked on suspicion of possessing the narcotic for sale, said Police Sgt. Ed Pierson. Bail for Scigliano, 26, and Kempster, 23, was set at $100,000 each. They remained in custody Monday at the City Jail, Pierson said.

Officer James Wilkes, patrolling Anaheim Plaza shopping center about 3:40 p.m. Sunday, noticed that a black Corvette traveling through the parking lot had no windshield, Pierson said. He followed the car onto Euclid Street, then stopped it and asked the driver for identification.

Scigliano had no driver’s license or any other form of identification with him, Pierson said, and Wilkes arrested him. Kempster was arrested on outstanding traffic warrants charging her with failure to appear in court.

Pierson said Wilkes proceeded to “conduct an investigation of the car,” in which he found one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of methamphetamines--also known as “crank”--in a container.

Police initially had trouble confirming the name of the Corvette driver, who gave a different name before his identity was determined, Pierson said. He added that Scigliano, who was also booked on “several outstanding warrants for driving with a suspended license,” had several aliases.
