A former credit union official has pleaded guilty in San Mateo County Municipal Court to charges of receiving more than $100,000 in bribes to arrange loans to non-members. The state attorney general said William Roy Singer Jr., former senior vice president of the Provident Central Credit Union in Burlingame, caused the credit union to lose about about $5 million on the loans. The credit union, formerly known as the California Teachers Assn. Credit Union, is one of the largest in the state, with 60,000 members and more than $250 million in assets.
