A Southeast San Diego man was arrested Friday on charges of killing his mother after San Diego police officers were alerted by neighbors of a “foul smell” emanating from the apartment shared by the woman and her son.

The badly decomposed body of Margaret Wilson, 58, was found in the bedroom of her 50th Street apartment by police. Neighbors said they had not seen the woman in days and her son was “acting strangely,” homicide investigator Sgt. Ted Armijo said.

Michael Steven Wilson, 28, was arrested at his University Towne Centre security guard job after he gave the 50th Street apartment as his address, Armijo said.

“He was also the last seen, this morning, going in and out of the apartment,” Armijo said.

Deputy Coroner Charles Kelley said the woman had sustained numerous injuries to the head and upper body. He said she had been “beaten and stabbed by another person,” but it was not known how long she had been dead.

Police said they had not determined a motive for the killing.

Wilson will be arraigned next week, police said.
