Costa Mesa police said they have found the car involved in a hit-and-run accident in which a 12-year-old boy was struck Saturday night as he dashed into the street while playing with friends.

Antonio Narango was near his home on Shalimar Drive next to the Pomona Avenue intersection when he was hit. He suffered a broken arm and internal injuries, and was reported in stable but satisfactory condition at the Fountain Valley Trauma Center on Saturday night.

Costa Mesa Police Officer Kevin Lovelady said the boy and his friends were playing with water balloons when he ran into the path of a dark green 1971 Ford Pinto. The driver of the car stopped briefly but left the scene without getting out to help the boy, Lovelady said.

Witnesses described the car, and police found it a block away near the rear of an apartment complex.

No suspect was in custody Saturday night, but Lovelady said the police hoped to make an arrest soon.
