A metal worker was killed Monday on a job in University City when he lost control of an electrical tool.
Ronald Anthony Yturralde, 24, of San Diego was using a portable grinding tool on a project at an apartment building in the 3900 block of Nobel Drive when the tool began to wobble, according to the San Diego County coroner’s office. As he tried to toss away the tool, a blade broke off and struck him in the chest, the coroner’s office said.
Yturralde, who worked for Designs in Iron & Wood, a San Diego firm, was taken by ambulance to Scripps Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m.
Cal-OSHA is investigating the accident, the coroner’s office said.
