Countywide : Board Delays Funds OK in Irvine Co. Tax Fight
- Share via
The county Board of Supervisors on Tuesday postponed action for at least two weeks on county Assessor Bradley L. Jacobs’ request for another $700,000 to pay an outside law firm to battle the Irvine Co.
Jacobs is seeking the funds for the law firm of Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro. The $700,000 would bring the total the county has paid the firm to $1.9 million.
The attorneys are representing the county in the Irvine Co.’s appeal of the 1984 increase in its property tax bill from $19 million to $51 million a year.
Board Chairman Ralph B. Clark said the delay would allow the supervisors “to get more information from the assessor.” Supervisors balked at Jacobs’ last request for more money for the law firm but eventually agreed to pay.
