Bassett : Motel Permit Denied

Share

A request for a conditional-use permit to turn a shopping center on Valley Boulevard into a 105-room motel has been denied by a county hearing officer.

The officer, Kathy Ikari, has not filed a formal notice stating the reasons for her denial. But county planner Richard Frazier said the developer who owns the property at 13032 Valley Blvd. had been asked by the county to incorporate a pool and restaurant into the plan and reduce the number of rooms. Frazier said a new plan was submitted with 105 rooms instead of the 121 originally proposed and that a swimming pool was included, but the restaurant proposed was a fast-food operation. Ikari is on vacation and could not be reached for comment.

Before the hearing, Ikari received complaints from area residents who said they would rather have a grocery or other businesses at the location.

When the developer receives the formal notice of denial, he will have 15 days to appeal.
