‘B.H. COP II,’ DRAFT II

Share

And now, the second-draft script for the long-awaited “Beverly Hills Cop II,” due for shooting in the fall. This one’s a lot more like the original film than the first draft, which Outtakes previewed in June.

As written by Bud Shrake and Dan Jenkins, Axel (a.k.a. Eddie Murphy) returns to the swanky Beverly Palms Hotel. (He’s still got the hotel robe he snitched in the first film.)

Fewer chase sequences this draft. But some more gags about the posh B.H. jail. The inmates are shown clustered around a Betamax watching “Dynasty.” (The script reads: “Even the winos are dressed in Giorgio outfits. They all look like Sonny Crockett.”)

As in Draft 1, Axel comes back to town to help out fellow cops Rosewood and Taggart (Judge Reinhold, John Ashton) and their superiors. But this time, when he goes undercover as a security guard, the plot involves the theft, not of priceless art, but of Defense Department weaponry (being shipped in crates from Frederick’s of Hollywood).

A new scene: Alex is hired to patrol the super-swanky Quiche and Carry Market, where the manager tells him that all these out-of-work actors are creating a wave of shoulder-bag thefts.
