Advice to Council: Get Out and Walk

Share

In regard to the Redondo Beach City Council’s move to increase their mileage reimbursement: I believe that the council members should provide the city with detailed mileage records regardless of the miles traveled. If Redondo Beach is going to provide “free lunches” to anyone, I think they should be limited to underprivileged children and senior citizens.

Furthermore, I believe that the citizens of Redondo Beach would be better served if the council members parked their cars and walked a few miles within the city each month. Perhaps the council should approve an ordinance requiring council members to walk a minimum of 20 miles a month within the district they represent. Considering all the driving our representatives have been doing lately, I think some walking would be a healthy alternative for them. Walking the streets of Redondo Beach would provide our council members and mayor with a better understanding of the needs and desires of their constituents.

If the council members truly enjoy subsidized trips to such places as San Diego, Palm Springs and Santa Barbara, perhaps they could work part time for a local travel agency.
