A Lynwood man was shot and killed in Paramount by his estranged wife’s new live-in boyfriend, who was held briefly on suspicion of murder and then released, deputies said. Michael Hawkins, 31, died in surgery at Dominguez Valley Hospital about three hours after the shooting in the house at 7327 Petrol St., Deputy Chris Robbins said. Hawkins went to the house and reportedly argued with his wife, Joyce, 35, about ownership of the home. He allegedly threatened her new boyfriend with a knife, and was killed by a single blast to the chest from a shotgun. Gary Hess, 31, was held on suspicion of murder, then released after detectives decided the shooting was in self-defense.
