Laguna Beach : Non-Tourist Festival Slated for September
Laguna Beach, home to the Festival of Arts, Art-A-Fair and the Sawdust Festival, will add another art event, this one after the tourist season has ended.
The Laguna Beach Autumn Festival on Sept. 13 and 14 will feature aquatic art, a jazz concert and magic shows, according to Dean Berko, the producer.
The event, he said, “is geared for the Southern California coastal community, not the tourist.”
Forty artists will exhibit about 200 works that are aquatic in theme, Berko said. Artists will include muralist Robert Wyland, painter of the international “Whaling Wall” series.
Russ Butler, also a Laguna Beach artist, will paint a 100-foot-long mural of a wave during the festival, Berko said.
The main event is a concert Sept. 13 by Hiroshima, a jazz fusion group, at Irvine Bowl. The autumn festival itself will take place on the grounds of the Festival of Arts, next to the bowl.
Jugglers, musicians, acrobats, mimes and comedy groups will roam the grounds throughout the weekend, Berko said. On-stage magic shows are scheduled for each day.
