Duarte : Shopping Center Upgrading
Contracts to renovate the Duarte Shopping Center in the heart of the city’s commercial district on Huntington Drive are expected to be awarded next week, according to city officials.
The city will use $250,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant funds to rehabilitate the 28-year-old center. The six owners of the buildings will contribute a total of $100,000 toward the project.
The project, expected to be completed in December, will include new roofs, remodeled exteriors and improved parking and landscaping. The center includes a supermarket, a drugstore, a variety store and 15 small shops.
A restaurant will be built on the east side of the center, which is on the south side of Huntington Drive between Buena Vista Street and Brycedale Avenue.
